Skroll® Rail Filter
New Compressed Air Dryer Filters for Rail and Mobile Applications
Air Purification Skroll Limited (APSL) filters are new and specifically designed to operate in the arduous conditions that exist in rail and other mobile applications.
Compressed air contains contaminants such as dirt, condensed water and oil. Quality classes for the permitted levels of these contaminants are contained in ISO8573-1. APSL RFG filters remove these contaminants to the specified quality classes necessary to provide protection in compressed air systems.

- The filter body is manufactured from high tensile aluminium bar which is Anodised for maximum corrosion protection both internally and externally
- Ozone resistant
Filter grades available:
- High efficiency Inlet Filter (IF) – for removal of dirt (down to 5 micron), condensed water and oil. ISO8573-1 quality classes 3, 7 and 3 respectively
- High efficiency coalescing filter (CF2) for oil aerosol removal. Designed to operate in high frequency air pulsing and stop start conditions without filter element failure. ISO8573-1 quality classes 1 for dirt and 2 for oil (0.1 mg/m3)
Application
Effective compressed air treatment through filtration prior to any air dryer is essential to ensure reliable performance and long service life. However, many filters used within the Rail Industry are simply adapted from general industrial applications and were never engineered for the specific demands of rail environments.
Non-lubricated compressor systems – The IF IF filter delivers highly efficient performance, removing up to 99% of condensed water and dirt particles down to 5 microns through advanced centrifugal and scrubbing action. With no sintered elements to clog, it maintains consistently low pressure drop throughout operation, typically under 70mbar (1psi), helping to maximise
efficiency and reduce energy loss.
In addition, the IF filter removes oil alongside condensed water, achieving up to 95% efficiency for typical challenges of 15 mg/ m³. This makes it an ideal pre-filtration solution ahead of CF2g-rade protection, while also allowing it to operate effectively on its own where high oil removal is not essential.
Lubricated compressor systems – A two-stage solution provides enhanced protection. The IF filter delivers the first stage of water and particulate removal, while the CF2 filter ensures removal of residual oil aerosols down to 0.1 mg/m³. Unlike standard industrial filters, which can fail under pulsating loads and stop-start conditions, the CF2 is designed specifically for rail use. Its moulded, bonded coalescing medium is reinforced internally and externally with stainless steel support cylinders, ensuring durability and consistent performance under vibration and pressure fluctuation.
Features & Benefits
High tensile aluminium housing > Very strong and guaranteed porosity-free = Reliable & Secure
Anodised coating > Complete internal and external protection, protects against aggressive condensate = Long Life
Direct fixing to back plate or dryer > No additional brackets required = Easy to Install
Burst proof filter elements > Avoid filter element failure in pulsing or stop start application = Reliability
Serial numbered (engraved) > Guaranteed compliance to the specification and traceability = Quality Assurance
High efficiency inlet filter with low pressure loss and no internal filter element to block > Saves energy and requires no maintenance = Reduced Operating Costs
High efficiency coalescing filter > To be used downstream of the inlet filter stage where oil lubricated compressors are in use = Security
